Visitor privacy

Privacy policy.

wordsfortravel. is a personal travel website written by John-Henry Roche. Its guides are free to read. This page explains how information may be handled when you visit the website.

Who is responsible

John-Henry Roche is responsible for the operation of wordsfortravel. and for decisions about personal information processed in connection with it.

Information processed when you visit

You do not need an account or need to provide your name to read the guides. The site does not currently include contact forms, advertising networks or email sign-up forms. It uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand website traffic and improve performance.

When you access a page, technical information such as your IP address, browser details, request time and requested pages may be processed by the hosting and security provider to deliver the site, maintain performance and help protect it from abuse.

Cloudflare hosting and security

This website is intended to be hosted using Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare provides content delivery and security services and may process technical request information to operate those services. Depending on the Cloudflare features enabled and any security checks applied, Cloudflare may set cookies that are necessary for security or delivering the site.

We rely on legitimate interests, where applicable under data protection law, to provide a secure and reliable website, and on the applicable exemptions for strictly necessary cookies. Cloudflare's processing, retention periods and international data transfers are governed by its services and applicable safeguards. For further information, see Cloudflare's Privacy Policy and Cloudflare's cookie documentation.

Cookies and analytics

wordsfortravel. does not use advertising cookies. Cloudflare Web Analytics is used to measure page views, popular pages, traffic sources and website performance. Cloudflare states that this service does not use cookies or localStorage and does not fingerprint individual visitors. Cloudflare security features may use strictly necessary cookies, such as __cf_bm or cf_clearance, depending on the protections enabled. These are not necessarily set for every visitor.

Cloudflare Web Analytics can be enabled in the Cloudflare Pages dashboard, which automatically inserts a lightweight measurement script into the served pages on the next deployment. A cookie-consent banner is not currently planned because this service is cookie-free and the website is intended to use only strictly necessary storage technologies, if any. If advertising or other optional tracking is introduced, this policy and applicable consent arrangements will be reviewed first.

Other websites

Some pages link to other websites, including travel venues and services. When you follow an external link, that website's own privacy practices apply.

Retention and sharing

The site does not maintain visitor accounts or a subscriber database. Cloudflare may retain technical information for periods determined by the relevant service and settings. Information is shared with service providers only as needed to operate and protect the site, or where required by law. Cloudflare may process information outside Ireland or the European Economic Area, subject to applicable transfer safeguards.

Your rights

Where the General Data Protection Regulation applies, you may have rights to access, rectify or erase your personal data, restrict or object to processing, and request portability in applicable circumstances. You may also lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission.
